Privacy and Terms

NewRoots is a free tool with no sign-up. This page explains, in plain English, what data is involved, how outbound links work, and the terms of use. Last updated August 6, 2026.

Privacy

NewRoots has no accounts and no login. We do not ask for your name, email, or any personal profile, and we do not build one.

What stays on your device

The app runs mostly in your browser. Unit conversions, shoe and clothing sizes, and the sales-tax calculator are all worked out on your device and never reach us. Recent lookups are held in memory for the rest of your visit so repeating one is instant, and they are gone the moment you close or reload the page. NewRoots sets no cookies of its own, saves nothing to your browser's local storage, and builds no profile. The one thing that does stay on your device is a copy of the app's own page files, which your browser keeps so NewRoots still opens when you have no signal. That copy holds the app itself, nothing about you, and clearing site data in your browser settings removes it.

What is sent to our server

• The Lingo and Cruisin' tools send the term or country you enter to our server, which asks an AI provider (Anthropic) to generate the answer. Answers are cached to keep the service fast and low cost. These requests are not tied to your identity.
• The Greenbacks tool fetches live currency rates from a public rates feed through our server.
• We use Cloudflare to host the app and Cloudflare Turnstile to block bots. Turnstile may set a token to confirm you are a real person.
• The Uncle Sam tool looks up the town and state for a ZIP code (or the ZIP code for a town) using Zippopotam.us, a free public postal-code service. The ZIP code or town name you type is sent to them to do that. The sales-tax rate itself is worked out on your device from a table bundled with the app, so your shopping list is never sent anywhere.
• Flag images and fonts load from third-party services (flagcdn.com and Google Fonts).

Outbound links

Some pages link out to third-party services, for example money transfer or credit cards. These are not affiliate links: we are not paid to list them, we earn nothing if you use them, and no referral tracking is attached. Once you follow a link you are on that company's site, under their privacy policy and their cookies, not ours. If that ever changes we will say so on this page and label the links where they appear.

Your choices

You can clear or block cookies in your browser settings at any time, and you can use the offline tools (Flip It, Kicks, Threads) without any server calls. NewRoots is not directed at children under 13. Questions: info@tnc-usa.com.

NewRoots is provided free and "as is," for general information and convenience. Conversions, tax estimates, exchange rates, size charts, and AI answers may be approximate or occasionally wrong, so please verify anything that matters before relying on it, especially financial, legal, tax, immigration, or driving decisions. Nothing here is professional, financial, legal, or tax advice.

We only feature services we consider relevant to newcomers, and we are paid nothing for featuring them, but we do not control them and are not responsible for their products, pricing, or terms. Your dealings with any of them are between you and them.

To the fullest extent allowed by law, TNC Software LLC is not liable for any loss arising from use of this free app. By using NewRoots you accept these terms. We may update this page, and the date above shows the latest version.
